What is a Google Business Profile?

A great tool for local businesses, Google My Business (GMB) not only lets you manage your public business information such as address, phone number, website, review ratings, opening and closing hours but also allows you to list your business location on Google maps, shows your listing alongside other related local businesses and as of recent post links to products, articles, events and more. The best part: It’s totally free.

As of November 2021, Google released an announcement stating Google My Business will be renamed Google Business Profile with access only via Google Chrome on the browser. The changes will take place at some point in 2022. You can read more about it here.

Why is creating Google Business Profile so important?

GBP is the most effective way of not just making your business easy to locate, but also communicating any updates to your customers. Since this is most likely the first place they would land when searching for your business, they would see it right away hence increasing the visibility of your content. It has been a popular method to share pandemic related updates.

Some other reasons to set up GBP:

Helps you win customers’ trust
Brands that show up on Google are almost three times more likely to be considered trust-worthy by consumers. This is largely in part because of the legitimacy around GBP’s verification processes.

Amplify your appeal
Who doesn’t read reviews before purchasing products these days! With your GBP listing, customers will be able to leave feedback. By doing this, not only will you get honest feedback on customer experience, you will also get that coveted star rating next to your business on Google.

Negative reviews are inevitable and we always recommend to respond to understand and/or rectify the customer’s experience.

Boost sales
By creating a GBP account and completing the verification steps, your store location will start to pop up for local searches on Google Maps. This makes it convenient for customers close to you to locate your business, which is likely to boost your sales. Around 85% of people use Google Maps to locate businesses nearby.

Tell you more about your customers
Browsing through the Insights section of your GBP profile will lead you to a wealth of analytics that gives you a break-up of how visible your brand is, who your customers are, and how they engage with your business. This is a great way to gauge how your business is performing and identify ways to improve your brand based on your customers’ wants, needs and preferences.

Increase website traffic
Having your business pop up in local searches is a great way to lead customers to your website and to attract in-store visits.
